Arcadia, Northern Treasury – I am so incredibly sorry to interrupt your morning, but some rather unfortunate things were discovered: Captain Mad Matt and one of the lifeboats have gone missing, eh? And poor Selah is feeling quite under the weather, like she's caught a bit of a chill. We found a little note from Mad Matt - so sorry about this - explaining that after his encounter with the Star Devourer, he felt he needed to spend a month in a quiet hospital ward for some much-needed rest and perhaps some warm maple tea. Anyway, so sorry, but with duty pulling us back to the cathedral, the party pressed on toward the promised tour of those lovely treasures. High Sun Priest Elio was far too busy with his duties - so sorry, Elette! - leaving Moon Priestess Selene to guide us instead. Even though she’d been working a long night shift, she was kind enough to agree to accompany us, not knowing how much trouble we were about to get into, eh?

Oh Dear, Spooky Bits in the Frosty Halls: Ancient Masks are Being Quite Unsettling, Eh?

Secrets of the Vault
Their journey led them to the mysterious Northern Cathedral, which is a massive structure that, I am so sorry to say, lacks any doors at all! Selene explained that its security was quite unlike any other place: only teleportation magic could grant us entry, eh. With expert precision - and apologies for any bumps during transit - she cast the spell, transporting the group directly into the vault. We arrived next to a lovely, serene basin of holy water, and Selene led us in a gesture of reverence, which Deva was very polite enough to mimic. As we approached the altar, our eyes were drawn to mountains of gold, ornately crafted statues, and rows of artifacts, each with its own mysterious history. The allure of wealth was quite intense, but suddenly, I am so sorry to report, Selene’s expression changed. She sensed a bit of a dark disturbance surrounding some of the artifacts. Immediately, she hurried to a book perched at the altar, examining it closely, as if it held the answer to this rather rude energy, eh?
Malignant Masks Take Flight
Just as Selah was studying the tome - so sorry to interrupt her reading - an eerie wooden mask lifted from a nearby pile, looking quite nasty with its twisted green-purple aura and glowing red eyes. Reacting on instinct, Mabel and Marina leaped to defend Selene, charging at the mask with their greataxes, but the relic retaliated with some rather impolite dark energy that really stung, eh? The battle quickly escalated as other masks, each radiating malevolent energy, floated from the shadows and joined the fray without so much as an apology! Suddenly, a chilling presence crept up behind Tiyana: her own shadow, twisted and animated, lunged at her throat. She tried to shake off the fear as she prepared a counterattack but found herself quite stuck under the mask’s cursed gaze. Nearby, Deva, wielding her Flame Blade, hurled a javelin at a second mask, but it merely whistled past, missing the target by a hair, eh? The masks moved with otherworldly precision, shifting to dodge each blow like they were playing a very intense game of hockey.
Chaos in the Courtyard
Mabel and Marina fought hard to shield Selene, who clutched the ancient book tightly, believing it to be the source of the spirits. She shouted a warning to the party: these spirits must not escape back into the book’s portal, eh? Now, I am terribly sorry to report that Marina, attempting to strike the mask from different angles, missed, and her axe instead accidentally demolished a golden throne in the vault; my sincerest apologies to the cathedral staff! Nearby, Tiyana noticed a peculiar red liquid in a bowl by the altar. Desperate to turn the tide, she threw the liquid onto the mask closest to her - so sorry for the mess! - its energy dimming momentarily, before she unleashed a burst of Fireball. As the spirits continued to lash out, Mabel scooped up a gold coin from the ground, focused her energy, and hurled it at the mask with the force of a heavy puck, eh? The coin struck, and the mask shattered into fragments, its cursed power dissipating in a cloud of dark mist. Meanwhile, Marina, unrelenting, loosed another crossbow bolt at a mask, just trying to keep the assailants from closing in on Selene, eh?
Divine Retribution with a Holy Hand Grenade
As she circled the altar, Mabel’s eye caught on a small, silver-gold object, nestled among the scattered treasures - a “Holy Hand Grenade,” eh? Beneath it, a simple note read, and please excuse these somewhat strange instructions: “First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shalt be three.” She grinned, grasping the device, and with a flick of her wrist, pulled the pin, counting very carefully aloud before tossing it into the heart of the battle. With a brilliant flash and a chorus of angelic voices singing, “Hallelujah,” the mask disintegrated in holy light, leaving a calm silence in its wake, eh. With the last enemy fallen, Selene exhaled in relief, stepping forward to thank the party. She placed her hands on each of their shoulders, healing their wounds with a single touch - thank you so much, Selene! As they recovered, Deva voiced some grievances over a supposed gold debt with Elio, to which Selene, visibly a bit irritated with Elio (so sorry, Elio!), promptly returned the 200 gold from the treasury, much to Deva’s satisfaction, eh.
A New Mission Inside the Book
Just as they began to catch their breath - pardon me for interrupting their rest - the cursed book sprang open, drawing in the dark energies that lingered in the room. Selene’s face fell, her voice barely a whisper as she realized that the spirits had retreated back into the book’s haunted realm, eh? Shaken, she explained that to truly end the spirits’ reign, the party would need to enter the world within the book and confront the beings directly. In gratitude and determination, she offered a variety of rewards for their bravery: the chance for Mabel to learn the creation of Holy Hand Grenades, assistance for Selah, and perhaps even more gold, eh? Resolved to face whatever lay within the cursed tome, the party returned to their boat to rest for the night, prepared to embark on a new and dangerous journey within the book’s mysterious realm the next morning. So sorry if that's a bit of a cliffhanger, eh!
