Shipwreck Secrets: Rather Spooky Captains and Most Peculiar Cargo Discovered!

28 May 2024

Between The Great Ridge and Port Elgin - What began as a lovely little quest for treasure on a secluded beach has unfortunately turned into a rather harrowing tale of supernatural encounters, hidden agendas, and quite unexpected discoveries. Four adventurers converged upon a shipwreck that had washed ashore - a bit of an inconvenience, really - setting off a series of events that could reshape the fate of Kenver and beyond.

The Gathering at the Shipwreck
Drawn by the promise of some shiny bits, four adventurers met amidst the debris of a rather badly damaged ship. Among them, Captain Mad Matt revealed his identity and his quest for a somewhat more reliable vessel and crew. The fate of his previous crew remains quite mysterious, which is all a bit unsettling, isn't it? After a very polite recruitment process, he appointed the monk Selah as First Fighter, the formidable Sonia as Second Fighter, and the rather resourceful halfling druid Wilma Waterfoot as an all-purpose member. Lamenting the ship's dreadful state - it was quite a mess, honestly - they salvaged what remained of its cargo: four barrels. Three contained mackerel and gunpowder, but the fourth held a most peculiar, viscous pinkish-blue liquid, smelling slightly acidic and faintly fruity. Captain Mad Matt, ever the enthusiast, performed a small taste test, revealing it to be pineapple-flavoured but far too tart for one's liking. Its interaction with water, where it dissipated immediately, led the crew to dub it "the enemy of the sea."

Perilous Exploration Inside the Shipwreck
Venturing inside the wreck - which was a bit damp and unpleasant, if I’m being honest - Wilma was rather rudely knocked back outside by a hurled fishbowl, releasing an angry Piranhax into the ocean. The party managed to politely subdue the aquatic menace before discovering that the ship had enough space for 120 barrels in its hold, provided one queues properly. In the captain's quarters, they encountered the ship's rather grizzled, blue-skinned captain, Liasu, who quite ungraciously vowed to defend his ship from the intruders.

A Rather Unpleasant Skirmish
Captain Liasu called upon two similarly blue sailors for aid, initiating a most vigorous battle. While Mad Matt and Sonia cornered Liasu, Selah found herself somewhat outnumbered, fighting off both sailors with great poise. Meanwhile, outside - and not being one to let good food go to waste despite the drizzly weather - Wilma was busy cooking the recently subdued Piranhax. Upon hearing the battle, she cleverly coated a Piranhax tooth in the mysterious liquid and hurled it into the ship, hoping to assist her comrades. Though the tooth missed its mark, Selah repurposed it as a second weapon, which was quite resourceful of her. Mad Matt attempted to have a civilised word with Liasu but discovered the captain was rather beyond reasoning, appearing somewhat zombified. In a final, somewhat loud clash, Sonia's greatsword pierced Liasu's side, and Mad Matt's trusty gun delivered the finishing blow, ending the eerie captain's undead existence.

Spoils of Battle and Clues to the Future
The heroes' search of the captain's cabin yielded some quite interesting bits and bobs:

  • Mad Matt discovered two books: a cookbook, which was most kindly given to Wilma, and a mysterious deep blue tome written in an undecipherable language.
  • Sonia found a peculiar contraption of glass, rubber, and pipe, akin to a snorkeling kit, allowing breathing near the water's surface - quite useful for when the weather gets even more maritime.
  • Selah uncovered two pieces of paper: one instructed Liasu to "deliver the cargo to Manamea without fail," and another, handwritten by Liasu, hinted at a different plan: "Port Elgin, The Day of the Full Moon."

With these revelations, the party set their sights on the bustling hub of Port Elgin, quite determined to uncover more about the cryptic cargo and Liasu's rather ominous plans.
