Kenver Shoreline, Underwater Marid City — The crew set off from Emberglow Forest, quite proudly displaying their new sail, even if the weather was looking a bit grey and uncertain. Their journey was interrupted by the arrival of a tiny lifeboat carrying Dingo, the Traveling Bird Barbarian, who joined the crew with a very polite nod. However, things took a rather unpleasant turn when the Coast Guard, led by Fawkes, Justine, and an elderly officer under Commander Colin's orders, began to pursue them in a somewhat persistent, albeit orderly, queue. Finding the currents quite unagreeable and far too much effort, the Coast Guard reluctantly turned back, vowing to report the encounter to their commander (one assumes with a heavy sigh). After escaping the Coast Guard, the party arrived at a mysterious island, where two shark folk popped up from the water. Despite some rather difficult communication - as their accent was quite difficult to parse - the party managed to swap some coconally goods for some lovely water-breathing algae, and the shark people used pantomime to invite the crew underwater. Mad Matt was a bit skeptical, but the party ultimately decided to trust these new guides, provided they behaved themselves.

Harpoons and Piranhas: A Rather Dreadful Skirmish for the Marid’s Sanctuary!

The Sunken City and Queen Tyra's Plea
Beneath the waves, the party was quite surprised to discover an underwater city inhabited by the Marid, a misunderstood race of shark folk often unfairly labeled as bloodthirsty killers - which is really quite uncalled for. The party met with Queen Tyra, who revealed that many Marid wished to live peacefully alongside other races on the surface, which seems perfectly sensible. The adventurers shared some rather useful advice with the queen: carrying extra rope can save lives, and a polite smile and a bit of coin go a long way in the world above. In return, Queen Tyra warned them of some dreadfully bothersome deep-sea creatures, including Harpies, Kua Toa, and the fearsome Dragon Turtle.
Just as the party was about to investigate a nearby whale that had been repurposed into an underwater boat (a bit of a clever idea, really), a massive explosion rocked the underwater city. Rushing outside, they discovered that part of the human traders' cargo had gone off quite spectacularly, tearing the whale in two and leaving both human and Marid corpses floating about. The surviving humans began to decay at a most unseemly rate, their skin turning blue as a pristine iron canister on their captain's banderole rusted before their very eyes - clearly, something rather magical and quite improper was afoot.
Chaos and Combat in the Deep
Queen Tyra and the party sprang into action as the now-zombified traders launched their attack, which was terribly disruptive. The enemy captain fired a harpoon at Mad Matt - a remarkably rude gesture that pierced right through his torso and dragged him forward. Matt played dead, attempting to prepare a surprise, but Selah, trying her best to be helpful, lost her footing and began to tumble into a chasm - not ideal, considering the lack of proper handrails. Meanwhile, Mabel struggled to land her attacks, only to be wounded by a zombie’s sword, which is quite a bother.
Deva, after Downing a Potion of Giant Size, transformed into a massive Giant Piranha, while Tiyana used her Mage Hand to tie a rope around both Piranha Deva and the falling Selah, saving her from a most unseemly accident. As the battle raged, Selah engaged in a fierce fight with a zombie on a piece of debris, catching the captain’s harpoon mid-air and using its rope to tightrope walk her way toward him - rather impressive, if a bit risky.
Mad Matt’s initial surprise attack was a bit of a letdown, but he quickly regrouped, hid inside the dying whale, and pierced the captain with a human harpoon move once the fellow's back was turned. Meanwhile, Giant Piranha Deva unleashed icy breath – courtesy of Tiyana –, freezing enemies and allowing Queen Tyra to finish them off in proper style. Dingo valiantly defended Mabel and Tiyana, and after a few misses, landed a decisive blow with his greataxe, setting the stage for Queen Tyra to deliver the final strike. Mabel, Tiyana and Deva stood in absolute awe of Queen Tyra's performance; it was quite something.
Towards a new Continent
As the battle came to a close, Tiyana shot some magic darts to finish off the enemy captain, finally bringing some order to the chaos. In the aftermath, the party discovered a map of the central region, with underwater areas marked, tucked inside the captain’s canister. Queen Tyra thanked the party for defending her city, offering them gold in gratitude - how very kind of her. The adventurers invited her to explore the world with them, but she declined, choosing to stay and look after her people. When the party reached the surface again, they also parted ways with Dingo, who had his own adventures to embark on (one hopes he has a decent supply of tea). Their paths are fated to intertwine again, as the crew sets out for the Eastern continent of Midai.
Advice on How to Survive Dangerous Deep-Sea Creatures, Courtesy of Queen Tyra Herself
Queen Tyra leaned in closer, her voice filled with the gravity of a ruler who had seen much more than a bit of a drizzle. "Listen well, travelers, for the seas you now traverse are dreadfully treacherous and filled with creatures not easily bested. First, you must be wary of the Harpies. These quite unpleasant beings, a twisted mix of human and bird, possess a song so bewitching that even the most steadfast among you could be lured into their deadly grasp. Their melody is not just beautiful - it’s hypnotic, an enchantment that compels sailors to throw themselves into the sea or worse. To defend against them, you must block out their voices entirely. Simple earplugs can serve you well, or better yet, a magical barrier that seals away sound so one might enjoy some peace and quiet."
She paused, her gaze hardening as she spoke of the next threat. "Then, there are the Kuo-Toa. These fish-like humanoids are rather brutish and lack intelligence, but what they do not have in brains, they make up for in sheer numbers - rather like an unmanaged queue at a rainy bus stop. They can be overwhelming when they swarm, and they are relentless. However, they are also deeply superstitious and easily spooked. A display of strength, a fearsome roar, or some carefully picked words might be enough to send them scattering in fear. Use their cowardice to your advantage; break their morale, and they will fall apart."
Finally, Queen Tyra’s voice grew hushed, her expression shadowed with caution. "And then, there is the Dragon Turtle. This creature is as fearsome as it is ancient, a colossal being with the strength of a dragon and the resilience of the sea itself. Its shell is impenetrable, and its breath can boil the ocean around you. However, it is not without its weaknesses. Despite its immense power, it is slow - its great size is quite a hindrance as much as it is a boon. If you ever encounter one, do not engage it directly; it’s far too much effort. Instead, keep your distance, move swiftly, and stay out of its path. Outmaneuver it, and you might just live to tell the tale."
Her words hung in the water, a solemn reminder of the dangers that lay ahead. "Remember this well," she concluded, "for your survival may depend on it. Now, if you'll excuse me, I believe it's time for tea."
